1040EZ Form - Line 9A

1040EZ Line 9a

Those who are between the ages of 25 and 64, who do not have dependants (and are not dependants themselves), and whose Adjusted Gross Income (line 4) was less than $12,880 (single) or $15,880 (married) may claim the Earned Income Credit using Form 1040EZ. If you meet all of the criteria to claim the Earned Income Credit but have children/dependants you will need to use Form 1040 or Form 1040A to claim this credit.

There are three ways to calculate the size of your earned income credit, which will be entered on Line 9a; (1) you can calculate the credit using pages 13 through 15 of the IRS Instructions for Form 1040EZ, (2) you can use the EIC Assistant on the IRS website to calculate the credit, or (3) you can have the IRS calculate the credit by simply entering “EIC” on line 9a. The size of the credit will be based on the size of your earned income calculated using page 16 of the IRS Instructions for Form 1040EZ.
