1040EZ Form - Line 9B
If you served in the military and received nontaxable combat pay, after you calculated your Earned Income Credit using only your earned income, calculate your Earned Income Credit based off the sum of your earned income and combat pay. You may use whichever credit is higher in filing your tax return. You can know how much combat pay you received by looking up the value in Box 12, code Q of you military W-2. If you decide to receive a Earned Income Credit that was based off the sum of your earned income and your combat pay, you will need to enter the amount of combat pay you received in Line 8b. If you decide to receive an Earned Income Credit that was based solely off your earned income, you should leave line 9b blank.
